Navratri, meaning "nine nights," is one of the most significant Hindu festivals celebrated with great devotion across India. It honors the triumph of good over evil through the worship of Goddess Durga.
The Nine Forms (Navdurga)

Each day of Navratri is dedicated to a different form of Goddess Durga:
- Day 1 - Shailputri (शैलपुत्री) - Daughter of the mountains
- Day 2 - Brahmacharini (ब्रह्मचारिणी) - One who practices penance
- Day 3 - Chandraghanta (चंद्रघंटा) - One with moon-shaped bell
- Day 4 - Kushmanda (कुष्मांडा) - Creator of the universe
- Day 5 - Skandamata (स्कंदमाता) - Mother of Skanda
- Day 6 - Katyayani (कात्यायनी) - Warrior goddess
- Day 7 - Kalaratri (कालरात्रि) - Destroyer of darkness
- Day 8 - Mahagauri (महागौरी) - The fair goddess
- Day 9 - Siddhidatri (सिद्धिदात्री) - Granter of supernatural powers

Fasting Rules
व्रत नियम
During Navratri, devotees observe fasts to purify body and mind:
- Avoid non-vegetarian food, alcohol, onion, and garlic
- Eat only sattvic foods - fruits, milk, kuttu, sabudana, makhana
- Some observe complete fast on certain days
- Kanya Puja (worship of young girls) on Ashtami/Navami
